QUOTE (Robert X @ Oct 17 2010, 11:29 PM)

I share Broken-serenity's frustration with, and puzzlement over, the slow release of English translations of already-written Qin supplements. What's going on with this?

-Bob

Same here. And it's yet another reason I try to push for them to do Shaolin et Wudang before anything else they have left. Because that's the one that appeals more to English Speaking gamers in the US (Hell, every other Qin thread on RPGnet complains about the era not being what they want for Wuxia)

Still, immediate purchase for me. But every month is making me wish I'd just imported the French version and muddled with it. I can read French, though only with difficulty.

Okay, what follows is unlikely to make anyone happy:

Art of War is still in translation/editing. Which means it's still quite some way off being ready. Sorry I can't be the bearer of better news, but I wanted to be honest about where the book is at.

I learnt today how much work is involved in translating each Qin book and all I can say is, YIKES! It's no wonder each book take some time to appear.

As soon as there is any news of progress, I will post it here.

I can imagine.

It's not like you can just slap the text through a translation program, it must be a bleeding nightmare translating a game text. All the subtleties a particular language can convey, knowing the language well enough to pick them up, and knowing the new language well enough to be able to insert them correctly.

And of course once that's done, you have to lay your new text out, using all the existing art.

Not easy. Or rather, not easy to do well...

Apologies for the lack of reply, but I don't have any new news at the moment to pass on. As far as I'm aware neither the product, or the line, have been cancelled, so it really is just a case of unforeseen delays. If Dom doesn't pop up to provide an update, I'll call the office on Monday to see what the latest news is.

So no-one needs to be contemplating the worst, okay?

Okay, the good news: neither the book or the line have been cancelled. We are committed to bring out all the Qin books.

Now, the bad news: the quality control checking on the translations is taking far, far longer than anyone expected. It's proving to be a much slower process than was hoped. This means that we don't currently have a release date for the book. It will definitely be released, I just can't currently say when.

Sorry it's not better news. I will obviously post updates as soon as I get them.

Alright, thank you! Makes me sleep better now smile.gif I' d rather be waiting for a while than never getting it. (And concerning Qin I am used to waiting. When I first bought the main book, I had to wait for about 2 years until any other releases...)

I'm well aware how long it takes to translate RPGs between languages (look at Anima for a good example -- three years for the core rulebook). I'm looking forward to anything else Qin related in the future however. smile.gif
